Following a meeting of the advisory committee on September 28, 2023, a prefectoral decree regulating the practice of photographic trapping has been approved.

It regulates the use of photo and video traps in the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve.

Key points to bear in mind :

1- The installation of photographic/video traps within the perimeter of the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve is prohibited:

• all year round, within the perimeters set within the RN to preserve Golden Eagle nesting sites and Boreal Lynx breeding areas,
• all year round, within the perimeters of the rock bird APPB included in the Nature Reserve.
• in the ZQFS from December 15 to June 30 (or from December 15 to May 15 for the Platières site).

• Outside these prohibited zones, the use of photographic traps is possible under the following conditions:
  • compliance with the general regulations of the Nature Reserve,
  • obtain prior authorization from the owner of the plot of land to be phototraped,
  • the Nature Reserve must be informed before any photo-trap is installed.

• These obligations apply to all persons for leisure purposes, provided they are not on their own property.
• They also apply to the professional activities of OFB, ONF, State services, national gendarmerie, wolf wardens, private gamekeepers and FDC01 staff, in the course of their duties.
  Private landowners on their properties must comply with the general regulations of the Nature Reserve, and are invited to inform the latter of the installation of camera traps.
• For professional, scientific monitoring and/or promotional purposes, the opinion of the Advisory Committee or the Works Monitoring Committee (CST) must be sought.
• RN staff may install photographic traps as part of their ecological monitoring and surveillance activities, subject to approval by the RN authorities, and subject to informing the owners concerned.
